Message from Bethany 歡迎進入 伯大尼文理補習班www.bethany.com.tw網站。我們是一對夫妻：謝陶德 (Todd Sherrill)、李秀梅 (Bethany Sherrill)；於美居十餘年後，有鑑於台灣對英文的重視也為了讓兩個兒子回台學習中文，於2003年夏天由美搬遷回台並居住於台灣省台北市大安區的成功國宅內，期間我們創立了伯大尼文理補習班，經過四年教學的不斷創新與磨練，目前已成為小具規模並以英文教學為主數學為輔的文理補習班。 《我們的教學理念》： 經過許多年跟非常多的家長溝通，我們希望所有的家長能夠認同會聽、說、讀、寫英文是爲了讓孩子能夠跟外國人溝通無阻，讓彼此能夠了解彼此真正的意思，而學校的考試只是一個過程，在此我們仍然是如此的期望！ 其實學習英文是一條長遠的路！我們常感嘆為何花了這麼多的錢，孩子的英文較其他國家仍然是相對弱勢，其實不是孩子不夠努力，而是很多的家長為了快速的看見孩子在考試上所呈現的短期效果而犧牲了爲孩子奠定紮實的英文基礎，所以在老師的選擇上也選了比較傳統的師資，以致孩子們被教導成為只會應付考試而無法真正聽得懂並與外國人做溝通的考試機器。其實我們夫妻倆在教學之後所獲得的心得是只要根基打得好學習英文就不應該是一件苦差事。 我們不誨言的說我們花費比一般“補習班”還多的精力以在遊戲中學習的方式教導孩子自然發音及拼音訣竅，有些希望看見孩子乖乖的坐在位子上學習英文的家長，無法理解我們的教學方式，但是，我們的目標是讓孩子在互動中學習成為一個能獨立思考的人，我們在這幾年中所得到的效果是：可以保證您的孩子在三到四個月中就有能力唸讀英文書籍及知道如何正確拼出英文單字。在孩子遇見不熟識的字時也可利用拼音方式正確發音並拼讀，從中增加單字能力。 在學習一到兩個月後，首先，您會發現不但他們閱讀及背誦英文單字的速度加快了，孩子們還會天真的回家告訴你學校的英文課本好簡單。之後；孩子英文的學習將只剩下聽力、口說、文法及寫作能力的培養了。 在孩子學會閱讀而且信心大增後，我們將再以一堂中師一堂外師的方式安排課程，同時將語法、聽力、口說、文法及寫作能力逐一的教導給他們，如此孩子的進步將快速距增。不但免除了害怕開口說英文的苦惱，也解決了學校文法的難題。孩子們可在輕鬆且無太多壓力的學習環境下快樂學習。可說是一舉數得。經過了這些訓練，當孩子上國中之後，基測英文根本已經無須再作準備，只要平時多增加字彙的能力就可以輕鬆的應考，從本班學習到國中的孩子在學校準備英文考試的時間比同儕少許多，而把多出的時間用來讀其他科目。 上了高中的孩子，因為在我們教學時所給孩子一些讀書的觀念的引導下，很多都知道要如何自我學習， 所以在英文考試時已經是無往不利了，我們可以非常有自信的說從我們這裡出來的孩子，英文的能力是非常好的，因為他們知道為自己努力是最重要的。 我們堅信只要方法使用正確，並培養孩子獨立自主的學習能力，加以不斷正面的鼓勵孩子，相信孩子學習英文的路將永不間斷！而有自信的孩子不但英文學得久又好，在未來的人生中更能站在世界的舞台上大放異彩。這，才是學習英文的目的。 |

Message from Todd December 17, 2009: Welcome to Bethany’s Cram School (BCS). Bethany (my wife), myself, and all those who work with us try to make learning a very pleasant experience. We try to maintain a positive and encouraging environment that fosters students’ desire to excel. Most of you know by now that I’ll be moving back to the US in January (1/10 to be exact). I will continue to be involved in BCS, however, remotely. I will continue to maintain this website, and I will look into the possibility of establishing summer and winter camps in the USA. Bethany, of course, will continue with BCS—she is NOT leaving. I will be taking our two sons back to the US to continue their education and to help our oldest son prepare for university life in just over a year. I’ll also be working to advance my Chinese Toolbox project and to establish a profitable series of language learning software products, the first being Chinese Toolbox READER. About this website This website is primarily a resource for our students. For example, if we teach a song in a class, we’ll put the text of the song on this site so that kids can access it from home. I know there’s a lot lacking from this site; it truly is in need of a major overhaul, and our server is slow. For example, I’ve got three years of photos that need to be organized and posted. BCS history Bethany’s Cram School began in 2003 with a few students sitting around our dining room table. At that time we informally called our business “ATS English Services”. After a while Bethany started getting involved, helping initially in communicating with parents. Then she began teaching and organizing activities. As we grew through the years, we conducted classes in two other facilities before landing at Fu-Hsing S. Road. It was here at the Fu-Hsing facility that Bethany applied for and received the business license to operate as a Taiwan cram school. Since then we’ve expanded to the space across the hall, doubling our facility size with a total of six classrooms. Besides English, we now also offer math, physics, and Chinese literature classes. |
